Rainbow Rangers Play Sessions

Rainbow Ranger play sessions are back!

Rainbow Rangers is an informal coffee morning for parents and carers of transgender and gender variant children.

It’s a great opportunity to meet with other parents in the area to discuss how to support your young person and share ideas that have helped. Support and information around terminology and signposting from professional youth workers. It is also a play session for the children to be able to meet with peers in a safe supportive environment.

Celebrating Women Event

Celebrating Women is an event for young women aged 10 to 16 years with arts and crafts, bra pong, chocolate fountain and much more. Raising awareness for female issues and celebrating all things female.

Celebrating Women is taking place in the Genesis Centre, Centre Way, Locks Heath SO31 6DX. The event is free, starting at 2pm until 4pm with free goodie bags for the first 20 attendees.

Genesis Centre Fundraising

The Genesis Centre is included on the Asda (Fareham) green token scheme. Please vote to help raise funds for this Y Services facility. Voting is open for the next few weeks. We will be adding gentle reminders on our social media platforms. You can vote on all your different devices each week (phone, laptop, tablet, etc) and each vote counts towards our total. Thank you everyone in anticipation of your support.

Proceeds of this fundraising project will go towards providing mental heath resources such as arts and crafts and sensory room items at Genesis. Look out for fundraising events/schemes from our other projects in the new year.

Y Scrapstore Event

Join the Reuse Revolution and head to Y Scrapstore on Saturday 19 February where you will find treasures for your personal crafting, projects, school, club, organisation or business.

You do not need to be a member to attend this event. All groups/organisations/crafters welcome.

10 Years of Y Services

Y Services for Young People celebrates 10th Anniversary

Double Digits!

Y Services for Young People is celebrating 10 years as a charity providing a range of approaches that support children and young people in their local communities. If the charity was a young person they would be able to attend most of the projects and benefit from the services available.

Y Services for Young People was founded in 2011 to fill the gap in youth provision after funding had been cut to youth services provided by the local authority. Y Services staff support young people in youth clubs, on the streets, in schools, online and in 15 different building projects in local communities. The charity was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in 2019 and has recently received a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund which will fund some core costs and the delivery of some project work across the area of operation – Fareham, Gosport, Havant and parts of Winchester and Portsmouth.

The charity will continue to engage, encourage and empower young people to be the best versions of themselves for the next 10 years and beyond.

Seasons Greetings

It has been a very busy year for us at Y Services, so now is the time for our members of staff, youth workers and team of volunteers to take a well deserved break.

We want to show you and the rest of the world how we support young people now in the present and what our ambitions are for the future. Youth work has never been more important. WELCOMING YOU BACK TO Y SERVICES

The challenges that young people face have not disappeared during this pandemic and in some cases will have escalated.

That’s why we’re working hard to operate as safely as possible during these uncertain times and are committed to minimising the risk of spreading the virus.

To do this, we have carefully considered the number of young people we can safely have in and around our centres, and how we focus our programmes to make the most of the outdoors and large spaces we have access to.

Our colleagues will have access to a lot of guidance on safe practice and risk assessments which cover everything they need to know.

To carry out our work in a safe and appropriate way we have implemented the following:

OUR BUILDINGS:

Multiple hand sanitising / hand washing points and reminders in each building
Kitchens will be used for hand washing only
Dynamic practice risk assessments for our buildings and all work with young people, in place and updated regularly.
Our buildings will be limited in use, fully checked to ensure we adhere to social distancing and full cleaning services resumed a week before buildings are occupied to allow for deep cleans and water flushing
Work stations allocated to each member of staff to limit sharing of facilities, working from home encouraged where possible
One way systems and separate entry and exit to buildings where possible
Toilets will also be limited in availability and use

YOUR WELFARE

We ask that anyone who has symptoms of Coronavirus, or who is in the same household as someone who has symptoms, does not visit any of our projects and follows government advice to self-isolate at home.
Anyone displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, no matter how small will be immediately isolated and parents will be contacted to collect the young person
Anyone relating to an individual showing COVID-19 symptoms will also be isolated

GOVERNMENT POLICY AND GUIDANCE

To ensure we are keeping young people safe whilst at Y Services, we will adhere to all the regulatory practice available and follow all relevant current policy and guidance. We will keep up-to-date with any changes and adapt our practices as required.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR SESSION

Please bring with you a snack and/or drink and your own face covering if you have one (we are able to supply face coverings at our centres)
Face coverings will need to be worn for the duration of your indoor session
Temperature checks for anyone using our services
Parents are welcome to drop off a young person to a Youth Centre. However, we’re afraid parents cannot come into the buildings currently
On arrival young people will be asked to check details and use the hand sanitizer, your details will be collected for track n trace and held under GDPR guidelines for 21 days

We hope this provides you, your colleagues, parents and young people with the reassurance of the changes we are making at Y Services to confidently bring young people back to our centres we will advise you on what you need to do or bring with you to make sure you are safe when using our buildings or are in contact with our youth workers but we hope you find this useful to prepare you for your visit and, if you have any questions or worries, please ask!
